Services for those with Parkinson’s Disease
SPEAK OUT!®
The University of Utah Voice Disorders Center now offers a two-part speech pathology therapy program to individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease to regain and maintain effective communication.
You can complete this program in person or virtually from the comfort of your own home.
SPEAK OUT!® is a communication training program that helps individuals with Parkinson’s Disease improve their speaking ability through emphasis on speaking with greater intention rather than speaking using automatic patterns. A series of voice, speaking, and cognitive exercises are completed as outlined in the SPEAK OUT!® workbook. The SPEAK OUT!® program is typically supported by most insurance programs.
The SPEAK OUT!® exercises are then performed in a weekly maintenance group to help participants remember how to maintain their skills. Group members contribute their own personal touch for group-based encouragement, accountability, and support to one another.
