The Best Cosmetic Treatment to Avoid Aging

Would you be surprised to know that the most effective anti-aging treatment is... drumroll please... SUNSCREEN?

ITS TRUE!

Maybe you've heard this before, but somehow it's always easy to find a reason to not apply or reapply. Sunscreen is too greasy... It messes up my makeup... Reapplying every two hours is too unrealistic... Sunscreen makes me break out...

It's possible that you just haven't found the right sunscreen yet! Here are some factors to consider when shopping for your summer sun protection:

  1. Sun protection factor (SPF): Look for sunscreen that is at least SPF 30, which blocks 97% of UVB rays.
  2. Mineral vs chemical sunscreen: There are two types of sunscreen: chemical sunscreen that absorbs the sun's rays, and mineral sunscreen that acts as a physical barrier, reflecting them. Mineral sunscreen is more effective at preventing signs of aging than chemical sunscreen, while chemical sunscreen is effective in the prevention of skin cancer, but is less effective in the prevention of aging. For ideal skin health, use mineral sunscreen to keep the aging UVA beams away from your skin.
  3. Broad spectrum: Broad spectrum sunscreen helps to block both UVB rays that are traditionally the cause of skin cancer, as well as UVA rays that cause early aging. Always make sure your sunscreen is broad spectrum.
  4. Texture: When you think of sunscreen you probably think of the white, runny liquid you rub into your skin. There are several types, including tinted varieties, that offer a more updated way to wear sunscreen. Some have a lighter, mousse-like texture that float over the skin. If you struggle with reapplication over your makeup, there are powdered sunscreens available. Or, if rubbing sunscreen on your face is difficult, try a sunscreen stick for an easier, smoother application. Exploring different texture options for your sunscreen can increase the likelihood of use.
  5. Fragrances: If sunscreen irritates your skin and causes you to break out or develop a rash, double check to see if it has been made with additional fragrances. These additives are usually unnecessary and are more likely to irritate the skin than those that are unscented.
  6. Additional protection: When all else fails, protective clothing and a hat are easy and effective ways to prevent sun damage and keep your skin looking fresh and young. If you find yourself in a sunny spot and don't have sunscreen or a hat on, try to find a location with shade.

Just remember that the best sunscreen is the one you'll wear! Picking the right sunscreen will better ensure daily usage and provide optimal anti-aging results.
