Why Choose Us?

We care for HUNDREDS of children and teenagers with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Though Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are rare disorders in young people, our Center cares for hundreds of patients. This means our care is efficient, timely, and effective. It means we've encountered difficult problems and worked out solutions to those problems. Not responding to treatment? We've solved that. Possible side effects from medicines? We've know how to manage that. Poor growth? We've solved that. Caring for many, many young patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis simply means were experts.

Greater than 80% of our patients are in remission.

So while we care for hundreds of patients, we do everything we can to assure every individual patient achieves these three goals: 1) no symptoms, 2) no side effects from medicines, and 3) normal growth and development. To do this, we constantly track our remission rates: that means we make sure we know of every single patient that is doing well, and every single patient that is struggling.

We offer expert care coordination.

What is care coordination? That's the piece missing from many healthcare settings. From disease flares, to managing medications, interacting with insurance companies, navigating medical testing, assisting with appointments, even interacting with schools, our nurse coordinator is an expert. How expert? She's coordinated care for families for more than 15 years and done so for families in Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, all over Utah, and beyond the Mountain West. Simply put, it means when patients or their families call with a problem, they have an expert who is accountable for the problem on the other end of the phone line.

We offer state-of-the-art care.

Care for children and teenagers with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis has improved dramatically over the last decade. With these improvements have come new medicines, new diagnostic methods, and new standards of care. Our physicians have expertise in all of these. We participate in study groups, such as the , to constantly improve the care of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

We collaborate with other expert physicians.

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis patients frequently require the input from other physicians.  may need to interpret biopsies.  are needed for imaging studies. Sometimes consultation with a pediatric surgeon is needed. It turns out that our physician collaborators are also experts in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in children and teenagers. Additionally, it means we meet frequently with our expert colleagues to discuss problems as they arise and review imaging, biopsy samples, and results of other medical tests. Ultimately, it means that families have the peace of mind that many experts are focusing on the best care for their child.

We are pediatricians.

All physicians in our Center are trained pediatricians and pediatric gastroenterologists. All of our expert physicians are .
