Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. There are several forms of cardiomyopathy.
In the Cardiomyopathy Clinic at Primary Children's Hospital and the Eccles Ambulatory Care Center, our team of cardiomyopathy and heart failure specialists see children with all forms of cardiomyopathy.
We also care for children who are at risk for developing cardiomyopathy due to:
- a family risk,
- other disorders, or
- a history of toxin exposures, such as chemotherapeutic agents.
We have a team of highly skilled nurse practitioners and a cardiovascular geneticist who works closely with the physicians to care for your children and explain the condition, symptoms, and risks of inheritance.
When needed we provide state of the art testing, such as:
- three-dimensional echocardiogram,
- exercise testing,
- cardiac catheterization, and
- cardiac MRI.
Most children will undergo an echocardiogram, ECG, and consultation with the genetics counselor at the initial visit. There are also ongoing research studies related to pediatric cardiomyopathy for which your child may be eligible.
