Milk Prep Room Ribbon Cutting

University of Utah Hospital has opened a new Milk Prep Room its . On Monday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m. a ribbon cutting will celebrate the opening and highlight the progress being made toward a safer, more productive environment in one of our most susceptible units.

The new milk prep room will be staffed with technicians maintaining the detailed tasks of labeling, storing, tracking, preparing and delivery of infant feedings, freeing up crucial time for NICU nurses. Staff will receive milk brought in by parents, which will then be properly labeled and stored. A 24-hour supply of feedings will then be taken by the techs to special refrigerators for storage near each infant's isolate. Later, the nurse will warm the feeding in special warming units for feeding to the infant.

This model will soon be considered best practice as it promotes optimal nutrition for infants and reduces the likelihood of error. University Hospital is proud to become the first in Utah to provide a safe nutritional service to our tiniest and most vulnerable of patients.
