Faculty and Staff Awards and Recognitions for September 2015

 

1. University of Utah professor and physician . This award is the highest honor that the School can bestow upon a graduate of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, recognizing a significant career in the field of public health. It consists of a citation, which is presented at an award ceremony, typically a celebratory dinner held in conjunction with the annual Harvard Chan School Alumni Weekend.

2. , researcher in the Department of Nutrition at the University of Utah has received the 12th annual Elaine R. Monsen Award for Outstanding Research Literature. Guenther's research efforts have primarily focused on dietary assessment. She has been a member of the Board of Editors at the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for 10 years and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for this journal and many others for over 30 years. The Elaine R. Monsen Award recognizes Guenther's publications as work that benefits the profession and the world.

3. The Johnson Foundation of Jamestown, New York, has made a generous gift of $100,000 to the to help find new treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The Johnson Foundation's gift will advance AMD research being done by Gregory Hageman, PhD, Executive Director of the Moran Center for Translational Medicine (CTM). The CTM was established in 2009 to more quickly and cost-effectively turn scientific discoveries into clinically effective diagnostics and therapies for blinding eye conditions.
