School of Dentistry , has agreed to lend his expertise to the additional role of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education, a position recently vacated by Carrie Byington, M.D., in favor of a move to Texas A&M University to head their ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Services and College of Medicine.
Hume's extensive administrative experience makes him a natural choice for his new role and responsibilities. He served as a department chair and dean in Australia prior to appointment at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) as a department chair. He then served as dean of the UCLA School of Dentistry, and as executive vice-chancellor at UCLA. Hume has also served as vice president for health sciences, provost and executive vice president, and chief operating officer for the 10-campus University of California system.
In each of these roles, Hume has shown himself to be a leader who has understood that education, like health care itself, is rapidly changing.
"Dr. Hume is well-equipped to meet the academic challenges that lie ahead with a deep understanding of how our educational mission is key to our success moving forward as an integrated health system," said Senior Vice President for University ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Sciences Vivian Lee, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A.
