Salt Lake City – The U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023 Best Hospitals Rankings have rated No. 1 in Utah and the Salt Lake City metro area for the tenth consecutive year. The John A. Moran Eye Center is ranked 10th in the country for ophthalmology care and the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital is ranked 47th for rehabilitation care. Huntsman Cancer Institute was ranked “high performing” in cancer care. Other areas ranked “high performing” include urology and pulmonology and lung surgery.
U.S. News & World Report evaluates more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide across 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions for its 2023 rankings. This rigorous assessment includes factors such as risk-adjusted survival rates, discharge-to-home rates, nursing quality, and other indicators of top-quality patient care.
“Receiving this recognition year after year is an extraordinary achievement, a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence by every member of our organization. I’m immensely proud of our dedicated faculty, staff and team members who have consistently poured their hearts and expertise into delivering unparalleled care and support to our patients,” said Dan Lundergan, CEO of U of U ǿմý Hospitals and Clinics.
This is the fourth year U.S News & World Report has ranked the Moran Eye Center, long designated as high performing, on its published list of the top eye centers in the nation. The ophthalmology ranking is determined entirely by expert opinion, based on responses from three years of surveys of ophthalmologists.
“This ranking marks the second year for our institution in the top 10, and we’re in good company,” said Moran CEO and Distinguished Professor Randall J. Olson, M.D.. “It is our privilege to provide expert, specialized eye care for patients throughout the Mountain West.”
The Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital moved up three spots from 50th to 47th for rehabilitation care. The hospital provides an exceptional healing experience for patients recovering from events like spinal cord injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries.
“This ranking is a resounding testament to the unwavering commitment and exceptional efforts of our faculty and staff. Their dedication is truly commendable. They consistently deliver outstanding care to individuals facing some of life’s most arduous trials, making a profound impact on the lives of these patients every single day,” said David Steinberg, M.D., executive medical director of Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital and chair of the U’s Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
