What is Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF)?
HCF is a public nonprofit organization that financially supports research, education, and patient care initiatives at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. One hundred percent of every HCF donation goes directly to support the mission of Huntsman Cancer Institute. We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, community groups, and other organizations to help us reach our fundraising goals. The HCF office is in Salt Lake City, Utah, just minutes from Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Does the Huntsman family fund the entire hospital at Huntsman Cancer Institute?
HCF receives generous funding from the Huntsman family, including landmark gifts totaling more than $400 million to build Huntsman Cancer Institute and hospital. However, one family cannot do it alone. In order to sustain the great work of Huntsman Cancer Institute, HCF gathers donations to advance cancer research, education, and patient care programs. Huntsman Cancer Institute is part of the University of Utah and is the official cancer center of the state of Utah.
Is HCF a charitable organization?
Yes. HCF is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization with 501(c)(3) status.
Volunteering Questions
How can I volunteer?
HCF enlists the help of hundreds of volunteers each year—our many events would not be possible without their hard work and dedication! From Huntsman SportsFest in June to our Annual Gala, we welcome people who can share their time and energy with us. As a volunteer, you're helping to fund the lifesaving work at Huntsman Cancer Institute. How do I make a financial contribution to HCF?
There are many ways to give.
- By Phone: Please call 801-584-5816 and indicate you’d like to make a donation by credit card over the phone.
- By Mail: Please download and print our printable donation form. Make checks payable to “Huntsman Cancer Foundation” and mail to 500 Huntsman Way, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108. Include your full name and address so we can send the correct tax information.
- Online: Complete this .

How does HCF use my donation?
Your donation goes directly toward cancer research, education, and patient care at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Through your generous support, we ease suffering and save lives while continuing groundbreaking cancer research. We welcome gifts to all areas of cancer research, especially to our unrestricted fund that supports areas of greatest need. You can be assured your gift is leveraged to maximize its impact alongside the vital support we receive from the state of Utah and grant funding from federal health research organizations like the National Institutes of ǿմý.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
When is my donation not 100% tax deductible?
Your donation is not 100% tax deductible when goods or services are received in exchange for your donation. For example, if you accept concert tickets for a donation, the tickets' value is subtracted from the donation amount.
What are my opportunities for recognition?
Naming opportunities are available to recognize gifts in amounts ranging from $150 (recognition in our online Annual Report) to gifts that exceed $1 million. Recognition on donor scrolls placed in Huntsman Cancer Institute begins at $2,500. I can only make a small gift. Will this make a difference?
YES. Every gift is important to Huntsman Cancer Institute's mission, regardless of the amount. Even small amounts begin to add up and make a real difference. Learn about all the various ways to give.
Can I donate clothing, toys, or blankets?
At this time, our greatest need is to fund cancer research through dollars. However, Huntsman Cancer Institute's Volunteer Services accepts other donations such as hats and blankets for chemotherapy patients. Visit Volunteer Services for more information.
Can I donate a car or other gifts in kind?
HCF does accept , including cars, trucks, boats, yachts, aircraft, or RVs. Receive the maximum legal tax deduction for your donation. Other in-kind gifts are accepted on a case-by-case basis. For more information, please call 801-584-5800.
Can I donate hair?
Huntsman Cancer Institute will no longer take donations of wigs or hair. However, HCF recommends all hair donations be made through .
Once I make a donation, am I on your mailing list?
All donors are included on our mailing list; however, we gladly remove names upon request. Email Executive Director of Operations Jill-Ann Pearl or call her at 801-584-5816 to be removed from our mailing list. We NEVER sell our mailing list.
Is my credit card donation secure?
We take the security of your financial information very seriously. To guard against fraud, your information is securely encrypted and automatically passed directly to the financial department for processing.
How do I receive a receipt for my online donation?
The final step of donating online includes a confirmation that you can print. It will be emailed to you if you provide your email address. If you do not receive an emailed receipt, please email Jill-Ann Pearl or call her at 801-584-5816.

Can I make a donation to a specific research program or part of the hospital?
You may direct your support to one of the mission areas, such as research or outreach, or to a specific type of cancer. In addition, we offer naming opportunities to support specific areas. For more information, please contact Jill-Ann Pearl, jpearl@huntsmanfoundation.org.
When making a memorial gift, is the amount of the gift disclosed?
If you make a donation in honor or memory of an individual, please provide the person's mailing address and we will send a card indicating a gift was made in their honor. We will not mention the gift amount unless instructed otherwise. If the family of the honoree requests a total amount donated, we will provide a cumulative total from all donors; individual donation amounts are not released.

How do events help Huntsman Cancer Institute?
Events take the mission of Huntsman Cancer Institute to your community and inspire the public to help. From bike rides and marathons to bake sales and talent shows, all provide gift-giving opportunities for individuals, families, and companies alike. Events are a great way to get involved, raise awareness for much-needed cancer research, have fun, and build friendships, all while supporting an important cause.
