What Is a Lifestyle Consult?

A lifestyle consult is a consultation or appointment where you meet with a health care provider specializing in lifestyle health factors. At this appointment you will explore these areas:

  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Sleep
  • Emotional health/resilience

During this consult, we help you get resources to live your best life.

You care team may includes a variety of specialists with a specific interest in this area, such as:

  • dieticians,
  • coaches,
  • sleep specialists,
  • physical therapists,
  • athletic trainers,
  • social worker/psychologists, and
  • advance practice clinicians/physicians.

You don’t have to get a referral to have this service, though you could get one from your current primary physician or other health care provider. We will connect you to the best team members to help you depending on your interests and needs.

Prevent, Manage, & Treat Chronic Disease

Lifestyle medicine is the use of these tools to treat and possibly reverse chronic disease:

  • Whole food
  • Plant-predominant dietary lifestyle
  • Regular physical activity
  • Restorative sleep
  • Stress management
  • Avoidance of risky substances
  • Positive social connection

You should think about a lifestyle consult if you are looking for ways to change your lifestyle to prevent or treat chronic disease.

If you already have one or more chronic diseases, such as pre-diabetes, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, mental health conditions, and others, you may be able to lessen their symptoms. You could also slow the progress of your illness.

If you don’t yet have a condition, you may be able to prevent it by focusing on these lifestyle factors:

  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Sleep
  • Emotional and spiritual health

If you have a severe disease, you may want to schedule an appointment directly with a specialist, such as a cardiologist, weight management/bariatrics specialist, or psychiatrist.
