There are steps to take to reduce your risk of experiencing a stroke. Here are a few:

  • Get regular checkups
  • Know your blood pressure (most people should be less than 130/80)
  • Stop smoking
  • Limit alcohol
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat a healthy diet that includes lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fish, and limited saturated fat. The Mediterranean diet is recommended by the American Heart Association.
